How do I know what equipment is suitable for my aircraft?
Click on the Tool & Equipment List, this will provide a listing per aircraft by the ATA chapter number.

Does Tronair sell used equipment?
Although Tronair has a few items in our surplus stock, we manufacture and sell only new equipment.

Does Tronair take trade-ins or buy back used equipment?
No

Does Tronair have a published price list that can be sent?
No; however, quotations for specific items are available upon request.

May I see prices online?
No; however, quotations for specific items are available upon request.

Does Tronair have a catalog that may be sent to me?
Yes, catalogs may be sent, upon request, by faxing or e-mailing us your complete address (catalogs will be mailed within 3 days of request) or you may download a copy by clicking on Catalog.

I need parts for my Tronair product but cannot locate the Operation and Maintenance Manual. May I get the manual online?
Most manuals may be found online. Click on Technical Support then Operation and Service Manuals (you must log in to access this section, there is no cost to download). Make sure you have the model and serial number of the unit in question when requesting the manual

May I get a printed manual sent to me?
A printed manual must be ordered with a purchase order. Make sure you state the model and serial number of the unit on the order. These manuals range from $25 - $150 (contact Tronair for pricing). Or you may download a manual. Click on Technical Support then Operation and Service Manuals (you must log in to access this section, there is no cost to download).

How may I receive a quote on a product(s)?
There are three ways to receive a quote:
  1. Click on Ordering / Quotes then Quotes (you must log in to access this section) and fill in all fields
  2. Fax a quote request to Tronair at 419-867-0634
  3. Call Tronair directly at 419-866-6301 or 1-800-426-6301 and speak with a customer service representative.


When may I expect to receive a quote once I send my request to Tronair?
We attempt to answer all quote requests, in order received, within 24 hours.

How may I place an order?
Tronair requires all orders in writing by either fax or e-mail. Download by clicking on Ordering / Quotes then Order Form or call Tronair.

When is payment required?
Tronair must receive funds prior to shipping. Credit terms are available. Download a Credit Application by clicking on Ordering / Quotes then Credit Application or call Tronair. Complete the Credit Application and fax to Tronair at 419-867-0634.

How may payment be made?
Payment can be made by check, wire transfer or credit card (banking information provided when order is entered).

What credit cards does Tronair accept?
We accept VISA, MasterCard and American Express.

When will my credit card be charged?
Your credit card will be charged on the day an item(s) is shipped.

Once an order is placed, when may I receive the product(s)?
Every order placed with Tronair will receive a return acknowledgement with the expected ship date(s). If you do not receive an acknowledgement within 48 hours of placing the order, contact Tronair to verify the order was received.

I have a product in need of repair, are parts available to purchase?
Yes

Does Tronair have an authorized service center in my area?
Yes. Tronair has service centers in Europe and Asia. Click on Service Centers then Asia or Europe for service centers abroad. Currently Tronair is the only authorized service center in the US.

How do I return a product to Tronair?
Tronair requires all items have a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number assigned to it prior to return. Download an RMA Form by clicking on Ordering / Quotes then RMA Form or call Tronair. Fill in all information and fax to Tronair at 419-867-0634. Tronair will assign an RMA number to the product and fax RMA form back to reference the return. Failure to obtain a RMA in advance of returning an item will result in a service fee.

What will the repair cost and how long will it take?
All repairs receive a quote, which will be faxed and must be authorized and returned prior to any repairs being performed. After authorization is received an expected completion date will be faxed back (in most cases repair will not exceed 4 weeks).

Towbar
What is meant by the multi-head towbar?
Tronair currently offers 4 types of multi-head towbars. The towbars are purchased separately from the heads and in doing so, only different heads, per the aircraft, will need to be purchased saving money and valuable hangar space.

Which multi-head towbar is best for my hangar?
Towbars are listed by maximum weight and which heads they will accept:
01-1202-0000-maximum weight is 68,000 pounds (500 series heads only)
01-1201-0010-maximum weight is 75,000 pounds (500 series heads only)
01-1270-0010-maximum weight is 125,000 pounds (800 series heads only)
01-1290-0100-maximum weight is 125,000 pounds (500 and 800 series heads)


What is meant by 500 and 800 series heads?
All Tronair 500 series heads begin with 01-05_ _ - _ _ _ _ and are standard heads
All Tronair 800 series heads begin with 01-08_ _ - _ _ _ _ and are heavy duty heads


How long does it take to change heads?
All heads can be changed within seconds by removing one quick release pin, pulling out the head, sliding in the desired head, and replacing the quick release pin.

With the variety of heads, does Tronair offer a storage rack?
Yes, Tronair has a head storage rack (part number 01-1954-6000) that holds up to five 500 series heads that is on wheels for easy movement.

What size eyebolt is supplied with the towbar?
A 2 3/16 in (5.6 cm) I.D. towing eye is standard; however, to substitute a 2 7/8 in (7.3 cm) I.D. eyebolt insert the letter “A” as the third digit of the model number, e.g. 01A1202-0000

What are multi-head towbars made of?
Aluminum (non-corrosive).

What is meant by “custom” towbar?
A custom towbar is designed for a specific aircraft and includes the towbar and head.

What is meant by “portable” towbar?
Towbars that are designed to be carried aboard an aircraft. Some of the towbars are telescoping while others break down into sections. Portable towbars have eyelets to hook to the tugs but do not have wheels.

Are the multi-head towbars equipped with shear pins?
No. Mulit-head towbars tow a variety of aircrafts at different weights and cannot be equipped with shear pins; however some of the heads available for these towbars can be purchased with shear pins.

What is the purpose of shear pins?
Shear pins are designed to break if the turning radius or straight overload limit is exceeded; but the head stays secured to the towbar. These pins are designed to break to protect the aircraft landing gear from damage.


Hydraulic Power Units (HPU)
What are the ramifications of using MIL-PRF-87257 fluid in a unit designed for MIL-H-5606 or MIL-PRF-83282?
Issue: Many compatibility questions have surfaced regarding use of MIL-PRF-87257 fluid in hydraulic ground support equipment, especially units originally designed for MIL-H-5606 or MIL-PRF-83282 fluids.

Tronair engineering department has researched this subject, meeting with manufactures of materials affected by this fluid. Tronair uses a Nitrile-Buna rubber (NBR) compound for o-rings, seals, gaskets, and hoses inner tubes for MIL-H-5606 or MIL-PRF-83282 fluid.

For MIL-PRF-87257 fluid, material manufactures recommend a fluorocarbon (Viton) or high Nitrile content NBR compound for o-ring, seal, or gasket material. The hose manufacture recommends specific high density Nitrile compounds, Nylon or Teflon hose materials.

Existing Units: Tronair approves the use of units designed for MIL-H-5606 or MIL-PRF-83282 fluid for MIL-PRF-87257 fluid within an ambient temperature range of -20 to 100º F. Any unit that incorporates a hand pump will require upgrading, contact Tronair for proper rebuild kit. The long terms effects are shortened seal and hose life.

New Units: Tronair has released hydraulic units specifically designed for MIL-PRF-87257 fluid, which uses the materials recommended by the manufactures. Contact Tronair sales department (800-426-6301) or see or website at www.tronair.com for details.


How can I change the fluid in my hydraulic power unit from MIL-H-5606 or MIL-PRF-83282 to MIL-PRF-87257?
  1. Remove cap from reservoir drain assembly and open drain valve to remove fluid from reservoir.
  2. Remove plug fitting in lower portion of the cooler to drain fluid from cooler.
  3. Remove and drain pressure filter bowl.
  4. Drain return filter assembly: Remove element from filter assembly and either suction fluid from filter bowl or remove top panel from unit and unscrew filter bowl from assembly and drain.
  5. Return unit to running condition using original filter elements.
  6. Replace fittings and close valve at the bottom of the reservoir.
  7. Remove existing fittings from the pressure and return hoses.
  8. Connect external pressure hose to external return hoses using a union (contact Tronair for available kit), open the pressure and return ball valves on the back of the unit.
  9. CAUTION - RETURN SYSTEM BALL VALVES MUST BE OPEN - DAMAGE OR PERSONAL INJURY COULD RESULT!!!
  10. Add minimum amount of new fluid to unit reservoir.
  11. Set reservoir selector valve to the HPU position.
  12. Open by-pass valve and start unit.
  13. Open flow control valve to ½ maximum flow position, adjust pressure control to minimum necessary to maintain flow.
  14. Close by-pass valve (make sure ball valves on back of unit are open) and allow fluid to cycle for 30 minutes.
  15. Shut down unit and repeat draining procedure (go to step 1).
  16. Replace filter elements with new elements.
  17. Install Tronair KHC-3766 Coupling Kit on pressure and return hoses.
  18. Change labels on unit to reflect the new fluid type.
  19. Service unit reservoir (do not exceed maximum level).
  20. Refer to operation manual for bleeding procedure to eliminate trapped air from system.
  21. Send a fluid sample for evaluation (http://www.anderol.nl/index flash.html), if acceptable; unit is ready to return to service.



Cabin Pressure Units (CPU)
The Rate of climb gauge is not registering zero at any time and stops at slightly above zero. How do I reset the gauge to zero?
The screw on the front is used to calibrate the gauge. Try turning the screw to the zero point and check the unit.
